Sometime ago in our stories we learned that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Jesus is the son of God. Mary was the name of Jesus' mother. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Now we are going to learn more about the works that Jesus did.
Jesus was invited to a wedding in the city of Cana. Do you know what a wedding is? It is when a man and a woman get married. At the wedding they usually invite their friends and relatives and have a party or a feast. Everyone is always happy at a wedding. This was the kind of wedding Jesus was invited to. Jesus' mother was also there and some of Jesus' disciples (followers).
During the feast the wine was all used up and there wasn't any left. So Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." Jesus told his mother that his time was not come. He meant that he had never performed any miracles. A miracle is some wonderful act that could only be done with help from God. But Jesus' mother spoke to the servants at the wedding and told them to do whatever Jesus told them. There were six large jars nearby and Jesus told the servants to pour water into them and fill them right up to the top. Then Jesus poured out the water. It had turned into wine. Jesus had done this because God helped him. Jesus had God's Spirit or Power. This was the first miracle Jesus did (John 2:1-10).
At another time, Jesus went into the temple. A temple is like our meeting place. In the temple men were buying and selling animals and exchanging money. Jesus did not like this. Jesus made a whip and drove these men out of the temple. Jesus wanted the people to remember that we go to meeting to worship God, to honor God and to praise God.
